Sir Syed Day 2026 takes a new direction in Dubai on October 17, bringing prominent Indian and UAE personalities together for an India-UAE Summit exploring education, leadership, cultural connections, and nation-building.
DUBAI: This year’s Sir Syed Day celebrations in Dubai are set to go beyond the traditional alumni reunion, bringing together renowned thinkers, policymakers, diplomats and business leaders for a special India-UAE Summit on October 17, 2026.
Organised by Vertex Events in association with Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) alumni in the UAE, Sir Syed Day 2026 will take place at Le Méridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre, celebrating the educational visionary’s legacy while creating a platform for contemporary dialogue between India and the UAE.
What makes this year’s celebration different?
Unlike conventional commemorative gatherings centred on alumni networking and cultural performances, this year’s programme emphasises intellectual exchange, international cooperation, and the role of the Indian diaspora in nation-building.
The summit, themed around the role of Aligs in nation-building, will feature a panel discussion with prominent voices from public service, education, business, and international affairs.
Former Indian minister Mani Shankar Aiyar is announced as chief guest, while Syed Asif Ibrahim, former chief of India’s Intelligence Bureau and an AMU alumnus, is listed as guest of honour.
The announced panel also includes Dr Ruchi Dana, Professor Apoorvanand Jha, Khalifa Khalfan Al Marri and senior defence veteran Air Vice Marshal Devesh Vatsa, bringing diverse perspectives to the discussion.
Connecting Sir Syed’s vision with modern India-UAE relations
The gathering will commemorate Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the pioneering educationist whose vision laid the foundation for Aligarh Muslim University, established in 1920.
The university also shares a historical connection with the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who visited AMU and supported the establishment of its Petroleum College.
This connection provides a meaningful backdrop for discussions on education, opportunity and cooperation between the two countries.
Culture, conversation and community
Beyond the summit, the programme promises a cultural celebration featuring performances by singers Gayatri Dwivedi and Ajay Sahab, combining intellectual discussion with artistic expression.
The event is scheduled to begin at 7pm, with doors opening at 6.30pm. Tickets are available through Platinumlist, starting from AED 100.

Impact to expect
Sir Syed Day 2026 could strengthen connections between the Indian diaspora and UAE institutions while encouraging conversations around education, leadership and professional collaboration. By expanding the celebration into a bilateral dialogue platform, organisers hope to give Sir Syed’s enduring educational vision greater relevance for younger generations and future India-UAE partnerships.
