Ibn Battuta Mall is expanding with 38 new and upcoming businesses, including restaurants, cinemas, healthcare, banking and educational services, with 17 openings planned by 2027.
DUBAI: Ibn Battuta Mall has announced 38 new and upcoming business openings, addressing social media speculation about its decline and revealing plans to expand shopping, dining, entertainment and essential services.
The announcement, made by operator Dubai Retail on October 12, 2026, confirms that 21 businesses have already opened, while another 17 are expected by the end of 2027.
Is Ibn Battuta Mall really declining?
Recent social media discussions have questioned the future of the popular Dubai shopping destination, with some suggesting it was losing visitors and businesses.
However, Dubai Retail says the mall continues to attract approximately 1.5 million visits every month and accommodates more than 350 businesses.
The latest expansion reflects the operator’s strategy to strengthen the destination’s appeal while adapting to growing residential communities nearby.
Which new restaurants and cafés are opening?
Food lovers can expect several new dining options alongside recently opened favourites.
Existing additions include Five Guys, Jimmy John’s Sandwiches, Marugame Udon, Caribou Coffee, Halla Shawarma, Zaika and Butter & Bread.
Upcoming outlets include Peet’s Coffee, Ocean Basket, Asia Kitchen and Smoothie Factory, expanding the choice of international cuisines and casual dining experiences.
Is cinema returning to the mall?
One of the biggest announcements is the arrival of Roxy Cinemas, bringing a new movie-going experience following the closure of Novo Cinemas.
Family entertainment will also expand with Hopa Loompa Entertainment, while recent additions include Zamania by Leo & Loona and Like Bricks.
Toy Station is another upcoming attraction, offering further options for families and younger visitors.
What new shops and essential services are coming?
Fashion and lifestyle additions include Jack & Jones, Anta, Tanishq, Magrabi, Mumuso and Suit Sartoria.
OWNDAYS, Puzzle Supplements and Chemist Warehouse are among the businesses preparing to open.
The expansion also focuses on everyday convenience, introducing services beyond traditional retail.
New and upcoming businesses include ADCB for banking, Amit Care and Doctor M for healthcare, Melodica for education, and Desco Copy & Print Centre for professional services.
These additions are intended to make the destination more useful for residents living in surrounding neighbourhoods.
Why is the mall expanding?
Since opening in 2005, the destination has become known for its six themed courts inspired by the journeys of explorer Ibn Battuta.
Dubai Retail says residential growth has created demand for a broader mix of shopping, leisure and community services.
The strategy aims to serve both regular shoppers and nearby households seeking convenient facilities under one roof.
Impact to expect
The Ibn Battuta Mall expansion could strengthen Dubai’s retail sector, attract more visitors and create opportunities for businesses. Nearby residents may benefit from easier access to healthcare, banking, education and entertainment, helping the destination remain relevant as local communities grow.
