IIFA 2027 promises fresh Bollywood entertainment in Abu Dhabi. In an exclusive interaction with The Brew News managing editor Shaneer N Siddiqui, Andre Timmins, co-founder of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), reveals Shah Rukh Khan plans, Salman Khan’s performances, celebrity challenges, and ambitious global expansion.

ABU DHABI: Bollywood’s biggest international celebration is preparing for another spectacular UAE chapter, with IIFA 2027 promising fresh performances, surprising celebrity collaborations and an expanded fan experience. In an exclusive interview with The Brew News, IIFA co-founder Andre Timmins revealed why Abu Dhabi was chosen again, which superstars organisers hope to attract and what audiences can expect in January.

Why did IIFA return to Abu Dhabi?

Timmins disclosed that organisers initially considered Greece and subsequently Malaysia before changing plans because of international circumstances. Several other destinations, including Cyprus, London and Pakistan, were also discussed.

He emphasised that the decision was not driven by budget considerations but by the comfort, hospitality and respect Abu Dhabi offers the Indian film industry.

With approximately 800 people, including 80 leading stars, travelling for the event, he described the UAE as a familiar destination that understands Bollywood’s requirements.

Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and major Bollywood surprises

One of the biggest revelations concerned Shah Rukh Khan. Timmins confirmed that organisers are actively trying to bring the superstar to Abu Dhabi, although his participation remains unconfirmed.

Salman Khan, meanwhile, is expected to deliver a performance featuring collaborations with other entertainers.

Timmins said IIFA 2027 would place particular emphasis on engaging hosts, topical humour and fresh entertainment concepts.

Varun Dhawan and Karan Johar are expected to lead the hosting, with Ananya Panday and Manish Paul adding further entertainment.

Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal and Abhishek Banerjee were also discussed as part of plans to showcase talent associated with streaming entertainment.

Aamir Khan and the dream Bollywood reunion

Timmins identified Aamir Khan as one superstar he would still love to welcome to the IIFA stage.

He recalled Aamir’s appearance in South Africa during the 2001 premiere of Lagaan.

His ultimate dream, however, would be to unite Bollywood’s three Khans on one stage or welcome Amitabh Bachchan back for a special appearance.

Another dream collaboration involves Salman Khan and Allu Arjun performing together.

The biggest Bollywood headache revealed

When asked whether organising an international ceremony or getting celebrities to arrive punctually was harder, Timmins answered:

“I think it’s getting the stars on time.”

He acknowledged that scheduling remains challenging, although younger actors are increasingly disciplined.

More opportunities for fans in Abu Dhabi

Organisers plan an expanded green carpet accommodating approximately 1,500 fans, alongside separate arrangements for photographers.

Additional celebrity interactions outside hotels are also being explored, offering fans more opportunities to see their favourite stars.

Hollywood expansion planned for 2028

Looking beyond Abu Dhabi, Timmins revealed plans for an English-language international entertainment edition in America in 2028, potentially connecting Hollywood and Indian cinema.

Impact to expect

The expanded celebrity programme and fan-focused entertainment could strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a major destination for Indian cinema. Increased international attention may also benefit hospitality, tourism and the wider entertainment economy.

For Timmins, the ultimate measure of success remains simple: packed venues, enthusiastic audiences and continued global appreciation for Indian cinema.
