DUBAI: Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, highlighted the UAE’s remarkable achievements in eradicating polio globally, crediting the strategic leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Al Owais emphasised that the UAE President’s humanitarian initiatives have been crucial in supporting global efforts to create a polio-free world, meeting the hopes of millions of children and their families for a healthier future.

In his statement marking World Polio Day on October 24, Al Owais stated, “The UAE is proud of its leadership in polio eradication, with our initiatives reaching millions of children and significantly reducing infection rates.”

He stressed that the UAE remains dedicated to this humanitarian mission, offering sustained support for international organisations conducting large-scale vaccination campaigns in vulnerable regions.

The minister also praised President Sheikh Mohamed’s recent initiative to allocate US$5 million for an emergency polio vaccination campaign in Gaza, reflecting the UAE’s continued commitment to global humanitarian causes.

He reaffirmed that the UAE will persist in implementing national immunisation campaigns, ensuring that vaccination coverage is comprehensive and follows the latest international health protocols to protect communities.

Al Owais noted that these efforts align with the Ministry’s strategic vision to build an integrated health system for future generations, promote research in infectious diseases, and further solidify the UAE’s standing as a global leader in health excellence and quality of life.
