Abu Dhabi European Film Festival starting May 12th has been postponed

Abu Dhabi: (Updated on May 9, 2024) The European Film Festival which was coming to Abu Dhabi from May 12th to 16th, 2024 has been postponed until further dates are announced.

It’s a collaboration between the European Union Delegation to the United Arab Emirates and the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi. The aim is to strengthen cultural ties between the UAE and EU countries through movies.

The festival will feature 10 unique European films from countries like Czech Republic, Estonia, France, and more. These movies will be shown at the Cultural Foundation’s theater, and entry is free. The goal is to introduce Emirati audiences to European culture and cinema diversity while fostering expertise exchange in filmmaking.

Additionally, there will be a workshop on screenwriting and storytelling for emerging talents, students, and aspiring directors. Led by a European film expert, it aims to deepen cooperation between EU and UAE experts, promote cultural dialogue, and support local talent.

Lucie Berger, EU Ambassador to the UAE, emphasized the importance of cinema in promoting cultural understanding. She believes that investing in culture and art fosters values like coexistence and tolerance. Through the festival, the EU hopes to showcase European cultures to Emirati audiences.

Berger also praised the partnership with the Cultural Foundation, highlighting its role in preserving Emirati culture and promoting global cultural exchange.

The European Film Festival is part of the EU’s global cultural initiatives in over 90 countries worldwide.
