SHARJAH: The Arabic historical dictionary has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the largest and most extensive historical linguistic project in the world. The monumental project, consisting of 127 volumes, highlights the depth and richness of the Arabic language, earning global recognition.

H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and Supreme President of the Arabic Language Academy, received the prestigious Guinness certificate in a special ceremony. He praised the collaborative efforts of researchers, scholars, editors, and proofreaders who contributed to this massive project.

“This recognition is a tribute to everyone who played a role in this achievement,” said H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan. He highlighted Sharjah’s commitment to preserving the legacy of the Arabic language and advancing cultural knowledge for the Arab world and beyond.

The Arabic historical dictionary showcases the history, development, and richness of Arabic lexicography. It reflects the shared knowledge of scholars from various Arab countries, with contributions from researchers across the region. The dictionary is seen as a vital resource for preserving the linguistic and cultural heritage of the Arab world.

H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan also noted that Sharjah remains committed to developing encyclopedic projects that promote knowledge in various fields, preserving Arab history, science, and language.

The ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Mohamed Hassan Khalaf, Director-General of the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority, and Kamel Yassin, Regional Director of Guinness World Records. Emma Lewis, an official world records judge from the UK, presented the certificate.

This global recognition underscores Sharjah’s dedication to cultural preservation and scholarly excellence, further solidifying its status as a leading hub for Arabic knowledge and heritage.
