ABU DHABI: From December 10, 2024, to February 2025, Abu Dhabi will host the region’s first international mangrove photography exhibition at Manarat Al Saadiyat. The event, part of the Abu Dhabi Mangrove Initiative (ADMI), will highlight the natural beauty and environmental importance of mangrove forests worldwide, showcasing their role in combating climate change and protecting biodiversity.
A collaboration between the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), Manarat Al Saadiyat, UNESCO, and the Mangrove Action Project (MAP), the exhibition will feature over 120 photographs from more than 40 international photographers. It will focus on two main themes: “Mangroves: Our Ally in the Face of Climate Change” and “Discover the World of Mangroves.”
The first theme offers a visual exploration of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves and Protected Areas, underscoring the role of mangroves in climate change mitigation. The second theme will showcase the best images from the 2023–2024 Mangrove Photography Awards, providing a global platform to raise awareness of these vital coastal ecosystems.
The exhibition offers a unique opportunity for nature and photography enthusiasts to learn about mangroves and their importance in protecting coasts, supporting communities, and addressing environmental challenges. It also highlights Abu Dhabi’s leadership in using nature-based solutions to tackle climate change and promotes international collaboration for the restoration and preservation of mangrove ecosystems.
Mangrove forests are resilient ecosystems that thrive in tropical and subtropical coastal areas, capable of withstanding high salinity and harsh environmental conditions, making them invaluable in the fight against climate change.
