Sharjah: On the occasion of GEMS Westminster School Sharjah’s (WSS) sports day recently, students showcased their very best at events like the high jump, shot put, and 600, 400, and 200 m races.

Furthermore, with dance performances like the Dabke dance, along with iconic Bollywood songs being sung by students and teachers alike, the sports day was a melting pot of various cultures, having a unique appeal to everyone in the audience.

The captain of the Dolphin house, who bagged the overall championship said, “This wouldn’t have been possible without our dedicated and optimistic team, who even with less than a month to prepare everything, performed better than I could’ve ever expected.”

As seen by the effort put into organising the sports day, WSS always goes the extra mile to appreciate the talent nesting in their school.

WSS’s student Maroof Merchant has been selected to represent the UAE U19 National Cricket team and play in the World Cup qualifier. The school states, “It’s a proud moment for all of us that he has made it to this level with the tremendous support of his parents and encouragement from his teachers.”

When asked about his thoughts on his accomplishment he said “If it was easy, everyone would do it.”

He’s a person who believes hard work is the first step towards success, and that can be seen through his journey of putting immense work into practising before he achieved the position he has today.

The selection of Merchant proves how schools are promoting sports culture.
