Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) sponsors two players of People of Determination, Ahmed Mohammed Al-Bedwawi, an Emirati cyclist and Ayman Al-Megbali Emirati bowling champion.

RTA’s support to sports champions covers the costs of qualifying them through international participation and training camps, medical follow-ups, physical tests and a special nutritional programme in cooperation with the Dubai Club for People of Determination. The overall objective is to facilitate social integration as part of RTA’s social responsibility and bring back sporting achievements in local and international events.

Sports Support for People of Determination
Yousef Al-Rida, CEO of the Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, RTA, said: “RTA’s commitment to supporting athletes from the People of Determination stems from its social responsibility to empower the community to be active contributors to the comprehensive development and make local and international achievements. We had collaborated with the Dubai Club for People of Determination to select talented athletes of various sporting disciplines and genders to receive year-round support, and monitor their performance and achievements in a bid to showcase their sporting successes.

“The collaboration between RTA and the Dubai Club for People of Determination is driven by a shared commitment to enhance partnerships, leverage expertise, and exchange experiences. The goal is to achieve results that meet the aspirations of young athletes from People of Determination. The agreement also mirrors RTA and the Club’s dedication to upholding the national policy aimed at empowering people of determination in various walks of life, culture and sports,” added Al-Rida.

Sponsoring Club’s Athletes

“RTA’s support plays a key role in fostering a culture of engagement in community initiatives and in the improvement of services aimed at achieving the set goals. Such a drive stems from the directives of our leaders to support people of determination with every means to enhance their abilities and talents in various fields. RTA has set an example in the support of people of determination through rehabilitation and integrating them into society,” added Al-Usaimi.

Proud Champion
Athlete Ahmed Al-Bedwawi expressed his gratitude for the substantial support received from RTA, which was instrumental in achieving his local, Arab, and Asian cycling championships. He attributed his wins to the sustained training over distances ranging from 35-45 km at the shortest to 164 km at the longest.

Reflecting on his achievements in various races, Al-Bedwawi said: “In the Arab Cycling Championship in Egypt, I won a gold medal for a 46 km race and a silver medal for 15 km. At the Arab Championship in the UAE, I won gold again for a 20 km distance and silver for 66 km. Additionally, I clinched gold in the seventh Sharjah International Tour over 8.8 km.”
