ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates is making history by becoming the first nation to use artificial intelligence (AI) for drafting and revising laws. This bold move promises to revolutionise governance, improve efficiency, and reduce costs dramatically.
A newly approved body, the Regulatory Intelligence Office, will spearhead this major AI-driven transformation. This office will manage how artificial intelligence is used in creating, updating, and analysing legislation across the UAE.
Announcing the development, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum highlighted that AI will speed up the legislative process while enhancing accuracy. Officials believe that, by 2030, the use of AI could help cut government expenses by 50% and boost the country’s GDP by an impressive 35%.
The decision to introduce AI into governance comes at a time when governments worldwide are exploring how technology can improve public services. The UAE, already a global leader in tech innovation, is now taking a pioneering step by embedding AI into the very framework of its legal system.
By using AI, the UAE aims to draft legislation faster, more precisely, and more in line with evolving global standards. The Regulatory Intelligence Office will work with government departments to implement machine learning models that can analyse existing laws, suggest improvements, and help shape future legal frameworks.
Officials stress that human oversight will remain essential to ensure that the ethical, cultural, and social values of the UAE are preserved, even as artificial intelligence plays a growing role.
The AI-led governance model could set a benchmark for other nations, showcasing how technology can transform the fundamentals of government operations.
With this groundbreaking step, the UAE once again reinforces its global leadership in innovation, governance, and futuristic vision.
