Rolls-Royce EX cars anniversary celebrates three experimental models that shaped modern luxury, innovation and electric mobility.
GOODWOOD: Rolls-Royce is marking a rare milestone by celebrating three experimental cars that quietly shaped the future of luxury, from bespoke design to electric mobility.
In 2026, Rolls-Royce marks 20, 15 and 10 years since unveiling the 101EX, 102EX and 103EX. These were not typical concept cars built to test ideas. They were fully working machines, created with a clear purpose and a deep understanding of what Rolls-Royce clients would want next.
The 101EX, revealed in 2006, introduced a more dynamic and driver-focused character, later evolving into the Phantom Coupé. It also gave the world the now-iconic Starlight Headliner, turning a simple roof into a signature luxury experience.
Five years later came the 102EX, the brand’s first electric experiment. At a time when electric vehicles were still a niche idea, this model explored how silent, battery-powered luxury could work. It even featured one of the largest batteries ever fitted to a car at the time.
Then in 2016, the bold 103EX reimagined everything. Fully electric and autonomous, it introduced a future where the car becomes a personal sanctuary. With a floating sofa, glass Spirit of Ecstasy and a digital assistant named Eleanor, it felt more like a vision than a vehicle.
Together, the Rolls-Royce EX cars anniversary tells a story of quiet experimentation leading to major breakthroughs. From bespoke craftsmanship to electric mobility, these cars laid the groundwork for today’s innovations like Spectre.
More than milestones, they show how Rolls-Royce continues to shape the future by thinking far beyond the present.
