SEF 2024 delves into impact of gaming on education, employment, and economies

Sharjah: Renowned author and investment expert Lucy Chow recently shared insights into the burgeoning opportunities within the gaming industry at the 7th edition of the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival (SEF 2024). Drawing from her best-selling essay collection, “Changing the Game,” Chow highlighted the far-reaching impact of games on education, society, and the economy.

Chow pointed out that the gaming industry, now valued at billions, extends beyond mere interactive entertainment. It thrives on essential pillars like technology, content, and talent, with gamers representing diverse demographics globally. Developing this sector, she emphasized, creates new career paths for both genders, attracting talents in engineering, design, software development, content creation, data expertise, and marketing.

In terms of regional advancements, Chow acknowledged the efforts made by the UAE and Saudi Arabia in fostering the gaming industry. Dubai’s 2033 video game program aims to position the emirate among the top 10 global gaming centers, making a significant contribution to its GDP. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia envisions gaming as a key contributor to its national economy, backed by substantial investments and support from private and public sector companies.

At another SEF panel, content creator Abo Flah and esports star Amina Al Ameri explored the growing popularity of social media platforms among Gen Z. Moderated by media personality Yousef Abdelbari, the discussion highlighted how digital platforms serve as powerful tools to unite people and foster community spirit.

Abo Flah shared his journey to success, emphasizing the importance of patience and perseverance. Meanwhile, Amna, who began her gaming career after a break, encouraged peers to fearlessly pursue their passions. She stressed the significance of carving one’s path and staying true to one’s passion, stating, “Gaming is mine.”

SEF 2024 provided a platform for visionary insights, encouraging entrepreneurship and innovation in the dynamic and ever-expanding gaming industry.
