Artificial Intelligence is driving force and engine for future, Al Olama tells session at 54th World Economic Forum

Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, highlighted the rapid growth of the global generative artificial intelligence (AI) market, emphasizing AI as the driving force for the future. Speaking at the 54th World Economic Forum during a session on “Generative AI: Steam Engine of the Fourth Industrial Revolution,” Al Olama emphasized the UAE’s commitment to technological advancements.

The UAE’s leadership has recognized the importance of adopting Fourth Industrial Revolution capabilities for over two decades, investing in technology and AI to reshape global industries. Al Olama stressed the significance of international collaboration, as demonstrated by platforms like the World Economic Forum, in enhancing government readiness for future sectors and developing solutions to propel progress.

Emphasizing the importance of international cooperation, Al Olama stated that the UAE seeks collaboration and partnerships with global technology companies to ensure positive outcomes and address potential challenges. He highlighted the UAE’s diverse population of over 200 nationalities, making it an ideal platform for developing global AI applications, particularly in healthcare and other sectors requiring development.

Al Olama underscored the UAE’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for generative AI, recognizing its potential for various enterprises. He highlighted the country’s digital infrastructure and flexible legislative frameworks, ensuring mutual prosperity for the UAE and technology companies.

The minister emphasized the increasing importance of digital skills in the era of generative AI, urging the need to ensure talent agility to adapt to new technologies and global changes. Al Olama mentioned the government’s steps in digital education, including the AI Programme with Oxford University, aiming to train officials and decision-makers in digital skills and ethics.

Highlighting the UAE’s achievements, Al Olama mentioned the UAE Codes Day, an annual event promoting digital awareness, and the successful integration of AI into educational curricula, teaching students programming methods and AI ethics. The session, part of the World Economic Forum’s AI Governance Alliance initiatives, explored the evolution of generative AI and its impact on various sectors in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, addressing challenges and opportunities for global leaders and governments.
