DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened two key bridges as part of the Al Khail Road Development Project, aiming to improve traffic flow in Dubai. The new bridges, located at Zaa’beel and Al Quoz 1, span a total of 1,350 metres and can accommodate around 8,000 vehicles per hour. This development marks a significant milestone in the project, which is now 80% complete.

The Al Khail Road Development Project involves building 3,300 metres of bridges and widening lanes over 6,820 metres across seven locations, including Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Zaa’beel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadir Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle. The project aims to reduce travel time by 30%, increase road capacity by 19,600 vehicles per hour, and eliminate traffic overlaps at flyovers.

RTA’s Director General, Mattar Al Tayer, highlighted that the project aligns with the vision of Dubai’s leadership to continually improve the road infrastructure to support the city’s growth. The Al Khail Road is a major route in Dubai, linking key areas from Business Bay to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and the project aims to enhance this critical corridor.

The first bridge at Zaa’beel connects Zaa’beel Palace Street and Oud Metha Street to Al Khail Road towards Jebel Ali. It is 700 metres long and has a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour. The second bridge at Al Quoz 1 connects Al Meydan Street to Al Khail Road towards Jebel Ali, stretching 650 metres with a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour.

Work on the remaining sites continues, with several other bridges and road improvements expected to be completed by the end of October, further easing traffic and enhancing safety on Al Khail Road.
