Hessa Street Phase II will double road capacity and cut travel time to five minutes for 650,000 residents.
DUBAI: Hessa Street Phase II is moving ahead after the Roads and Transport Authority awarded the main construction contract for the next stage of the corridor’s major upgrade.
The project covers a 3 km stretch between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. It includes new bridges spanning 8,835 metres, a 480 metre tunnel and major intersection upgrades designed to ease congestion across one of Dubai’s busiest residential corridors.
Once completed, Hessa Street Phase II will double road capacity from 4,000 vehicles per hour in each direction to 8,000 vehicles per hour. Daily journey times are expected to drop dramatically from 24 minutes to just five minutes.
The development will serve around 650,000 residents across 10 key areas including JVC, Arjan, Dubai Science Park, Al Barsha South, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, The Greens and Emirates Hills. According to RTA, the corridor currently handles around half a million trips per day.
The works include multi level flyovers, directional ramps and grade separated collector roads to streamline traffic flow. A 525 metre braided ramp will eliminate traffic overlap, while upgraded junctions will accommodate up to 18,200 vehicles per hour in certain sections.
In addition to vehicle upgrades, the project includes a 10.4 km cycling and e scooter track linking Dubai Hills and Dubai Motor City. All roundabouts along the upgraded corridor will be converted into signalised intersections to enhance safety and efficiency.
RTA confirmed that Phase I will open in April, with full completion scheduled in the first quarter of 2026.
Hessa Street Phase II marks another step in Dubai’s long term strategy to modernise road infrastructure in line with urban growth.
