Hamdan bin Mohammed issues resolution on a unified Dubai population registry
Thu 12 Sep 2024DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has issued a resolution to create a unified Dubai population registry. This registry will provide real-time, accurate data about the city’s residents and will support Dubai’s digital transformation efforts.

The new registry aims to centralise population data, which will help the government in planning and developing policies. It will also support regular census activities, improve public services, and enable future population forecasts for economic and social planning.
The registry will be hosted on the digital platform of the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment, making it the official source of population data for the emirate. The Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment is responsible for managing the registry, coordinating with other government entities to gather data, and ensuring data security in collaboration with the Dubai Cyber Security Center.

The resolution also mandates that data providers, including private and government entities, supply data in accordance with Dubai’s approved standards and ensure it is regularly updated. These providers must ensure their systems comply with the registry’s requirements and follow security guidelines.
The Dubai Electronic Security Center will ensure the security of the platform, working with the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment to maintain data protection and auditing.

This resolution does not change existing legal protections for personal data, as outlined in Dubai’s data laws. It is effective immediately and will be published in the Official Gazette.
