Dubai: Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), a member of the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), and Derq, a well-known developer of artificial intelligence (AI) analytics solutions for road safety and traffic management, have successfully installed 14 AI Smart Pedestrian Crossing Systems throughout Dubai Silicon Oasis.

This accomplishment follows their collaboration, wherein the two organizations teamed together to offer DSO cutting-edge skills and smart city solutions.

Pedestrians, cyclists, and other vulnerable road users (VRUs) can be easily and reliably identified using Derq’s “Real-Time Perception and Connectivity AI Platform”.

This revolutionary solution easily connects with the road infrastructure to improve safety measures and is the first of its type in the area.

With the use of patented behavior prediction models, the device may actively activate flashing warning signs, in-road warning lights, and even traffic signal controllers in anticipation of people crossing, successfully preventing any possible confrontations with approaching automobiles.

The system also gathers useful information to improve road users’ awareness of safety issues and the responsiveness of pertinent authorities to traffic performance.

This accomplishment is the result of two years’ worth of thorough testing to guarantee the proof of concept’s security and efficacy.

The AI algorithms in the new system are made to recognize and monitor approaching automobiles and other road users. With this capacity, the system’s impact on the approaching cars in the vicinity’s reaction time is maximized.

The control algorithms of the system also enable customization based on particular crossing conditions, enabling the flexibility to activate or deactivate warnings and manage their length.

Alerts can be set to continue to sound until the predefined crossing time has passed or until a pedestrian is seen in the crosswalk or close by. At pedestrian crossings, this cutting-edge capability guarantees maximum safety and effective traffic management.

The system also has a 5G connection that is extremely fast and low latency, ensuring smooth connectivity. The system’s operator may operate, maintain, and configure the system remotely because to this sophisticated connectivity, which also enables significant data collecting of traffic and safety occurrences.

The system will soon be able to take advantage of 5G communication technology to efficiently provide warnings and safety information to linked automobiles as they approach the pedestrian crosswalk.
