DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has recently completed key traffic enhancements in Oud Metha under its 2024 Quick Traffic Solutions Plan. This project is a step towards optimising Dubai’s road network, supporting the RTA’s commitment to improving infrastructure for the city’s growing population and urban expansion. The upgrades are designed to ease traffic flow and boost road safety across the area.

One of the primary improvements includes the addition of 317-metre deceleration and acceleration lanes at entry and exit points from Umm Hurair Street to Oud Metha. These lanes are intended to better accommodate incoming and outgoing traffic, reducing congestion and improving access.

Furthermore, the service road exit on Umm Hurair Street was widened from two lanes to three across a 100-metre section. This expansion has increased the road capacity by 50 percent, reducing journey times by approximately 40 percent.

Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at the Traffic and Roads Agency, RTA, highlighted that the RTA also implemented quick enhancements such as road lighting to improve the flow of traffic in this bustling area. Oud Metha houses a mix of residential, commercial, medical, social, cultural, and sports facilities, and these upgrades aim to reduce accidents and uphold high safety standards.

Al Shehhi further explained that the RTA expanded Street No. 2 towards the Umm Hurair Roundabout to ease traffic buildup. They conducted surface improvements at the roundabout, increasing the number of turning lanes from two to three, allowing for smoother access and exit for visitors. Additionally, the RTA introduced 27 new parking spaces to accommodate visitors, particularly those frequenting commercial spots, enhancing public satisfaction with the area’s infrastructure.

These efforts align with Dubai’s vision to be the world’s most liveable city, supporting a well-organised, accessible, and safe environment for all.
