Washington: In a message dated Wednesday, Hyundai and Kia advised owners of the 92,000 recalled US cars to park their vehicles outside and away from buildings in case faulty electrical components overheated and started a fire.

The problem, according to the two Korean manufacturers who share a manufacturer, is with some vehicles’ electric oil pump controls.

Hyundai Palisade, Tucson, Sonata, Elantra, and Kona models from the model years 2023 and 2024 may be impacted. According to documents published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Kia is recalling some 2023 and 2024 Soul, Sportage, and Selto vehicles.

According to declarations made by the automakers to the federal traffic safety agency, the issue arises when “the electronic controller for the Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly contains damaged electrical components that can cause the pump controller to overheat” and increase the risk of fire.

According to a report, the Hyundai cars that are being recalled have so far experienced four “thermal incidents,” but no injuries have been reported. Kia has faced six “incidents of localized melting” but no fires or injuries have been reported.

The firms stated in the comments that “Dealers will inspect and replace the electric oil pump controller, as necessary, free of charge.”

According to the statements, Kia owners will be contacted by Sept. 28 if they qualify for replacement and Hyundai owners will be notified by mail by Sept. 25 if they do.

Hyundai and Kia have already advised owners to park their vehicles outdoors in case the cars catch fire. The companies recalled 245,000 vehicles last year, due to an electrical issue with the tow hitch.
