Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, recently inspected a wheat farm in Mleiha, emphasizing the use of advanced equipment for water-efficient irrigation and crop management. Ground sensors and a weather station ensure optimal moisture levels, enhancing wheat crop yields.

The visit highlighted the expansion of the farm’s phases, integrating the second and third stages by adding 25 lines across a 1,900-hectare area. Sheikh Sultan was briefed on diverse wheat varieties, growth stages, and experimental results aimed at improving agricultural practices for nutrient-rich, organic crops.

In its second year, the wheat farm is part of Sheikh Sultan’s food security initiative, targeting premium, pesticide-free, high-protein wheat crops. The second and third stages involve the use of 300 tonnes of high-purity seeds and 24,000 tonnes of organic fertilizers. An irrigation pond with a 48,000-cubic-meter capacity supplies water through a pump room housing nine pumps capable of pumping 430 cubic meters per hour.

The Ruler of Sharjah’s visit, accompanied by Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, signifies a commitment to advancing agricultural practices for improved food security.
