Listening to Music is an Experience, be it Radio or through a music streaming platform, what adds more flavor to the music you are listening to is the unpredictability of which song will be played next or what info the presenter will share with us.

Imagine this song playing on Radio:- Phir le aaya Dil…..listening to it you are immediately transferred to a relaxed state of mind….the presenter comes in and says Arijit Singh ki awaaz from the film Barfi, dedicated to (your name). Suddenly in that relaxed mood, you are made to feel important. Back in your mind you know thousands are listening to this in your city at the same time.

The beauty of Live Radio is Unparalleled. The connection you feel with the music, with the presenter, with the show is surreal, an experience that can only be felt. The work behind this to give you such an experience is immense, from the music manager who sets the mood all along the dayparts, the producer of the show who plans the content, the presenter who then executes it, and many more.

We all listen to the radio for various reasons and lately, I have been involved in the Talk format where we don’t play music during our live show, we share current news, we talk sports, business and discuss things that affect our day to day lives, basic conversations. The drivers of this format are the presenters, however, a whole lot of work goes behind by our producers who are smarter and more intelligent than us, as they constantly feed us with information which we execute in a conversational way on the radio to engage with our listeners and all of this is LIVE.

Listening to Live Radio in your car or your home is an experience we all are used to, an important factor to keep our moods happy and fill us with energy every single day in and day out. I would mention this again, the beauty of live radio is unparalleled. So on this world radio day, tune in to your favorite radio station!

History of World Radio Day:

On 20th September 2010, the Spanish Radio Academy requested a World Radio Day in front of UNESCO’s Executive Board. After extensive consultation from broadcasting associations, UN agencies, NGOs, foundations as well as UNESCO Permanent Delegations, the board recommended to the UNESCO 36th session of the General Conference to have a World Radio Day on 13th February.

World Radio Day 2022: Theme

The theme of World Radio Day 2022 (WRD 2022) is “Radio and Trust”

The theme of the 2022 edition has been picked as ‘Radio and Trust’ because, despite a global decline in trust in the internet and social media networks, radio continues to be seen by people as one of the most trustworthy news sources.

The theme of World Radio Day 2022 is divided into three sub-themes, so all the celebrations of this day revolve around these themes to promote Radio.

  • Trust in radio journalism: Produce independent and high-quality content;
  • Trust and accessibility: Take care of your audience;
  • Trust and viability of radio stations: Ensure competitiveness.

Trivia about World Radio Day:

  • The history of radio can be traced back to more than 110 years. In 1895, a young Italian named Gugliemo Marconi invented what he called “the wireless telegraph” while experimenting in his parents’ attic. • The United Nations says that World Radio Day celebrates Radio as “part of human history.”
  • The term “radio” is derived from the Latin “radius”, which means “spoke, beam, ray”. It was first applied to communications in 1881.
