DUBAi: In the first half of 2024, Dubai Municipality carried out 52,233 inspection visits across environment, health, and food sectors. These inspections aimed to ensure that various activities and organisations in the city meet the required standards for consumer products, food safety, health, and environmental protection.

Dr. Naseem Mohammad Rafee, Acting CEO of the Environment, Health & Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality, emphasised the Municipality’s dedication to conducting regular inspections and campaigns. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to create a safe and sustainable environment in Dubai, supporting both food security and a high quality of life. Dr. Rafee highlighted that the Municipality’s goal is to maintain Dubai’s appeal as a sustainable city and to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.

The health and safety teams, comprising 95 supervisors, completed 26,566 inspections. Their work focused on a variety of places, including hotels, shisha cafes, hair salons, and public markets. They also checked public spaces, playgrounds, and event venues to ensure safety.

In addition, the Municipality’s inspections at ports evaluated over 17,000 shipments, equivalent to 145,000 tonnes of consumer products, ensuring they met safety standards.

For food safety, Dubai Municipality’s teams conducted around 18,374 inspections at various food establishments such as restaurants, hotels, and cafes. They also covered 31 temporary events. During this period, 2,733 food safety reports were filed. The number of food establishments in Dubai reached 25,000, with 1,373 new openings in the first half of 2024.

On the environmental front, Dubai Municipality’s teams performed 4,331 inspections. They used a smart system to efficiently manage environmental monitoring tasks and conducted 783 inspections of marine and coastal areas. Additionally, 170 inspections were done in Dubai’s natural reserves.

Public health inspections included 2,962 visits to veterinary facilities and pest control companies. The Municipality issued 305 No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for veterinary activities and 1,963 health certifications for export shipments. They also dealt with 3,305 reports related to stray animals and animal welfare, inspected 160,402 slaughtered animals for safety, and monitored 584,276 livestock and 465,445 tonnes of animal feed.

The Dubai Central Laboratory inspected 13,600 legal measuring instruments, such as fuel meters and electronic balances, achieving a compliance rate of over 99%.
