Aga Khan Foundation donation of AED367 million will support the Edge of Life campaign aiming to rescue five million children from hunger.
DUBAI: The Aga Khan Foundation donation of AED367 million has been announced in support of the Edge of Life campaign, a global humanitarian initiative aimed at rescuing five million children from hunger. The commitment, equivalent to $100 million over the next five years.
The campaign was launched during Ramadan by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The initiative aims to raise at least AED1 billion to address childhood hunger and malnutrition around the world.
The Aga Khan Foundation donation represents a major contribution to the campaign and reflects growing international support for the initiative. The pledge was announced in the presence of philanthropic and business leaders during the event organised in collaboration with Badr Jafar, Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Business and Philanthropy.
The commitment will expand the work of the Aga Khan Development Network in improving nutrition and food systems across Asia and Africa.
In its first year under the leadership of His Highness Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the organisation has more than doubled its financial commitment to nutrition programmes. These efforts include expanding the Central Asia Stunting Initiative in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria and Tajikistan, alongside existing projects in Africa.
Mohammad Al Gergawi, Secretary General of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, said the Aga Khan Foundation donation demonstrates global trust in the UAE’s humanitarian efforts and highlights the importance of international partnerships in tackling hunger.
Prince Rahim Aga Khan V said addressing malnutrition requires sustained global cooperation to ensure that children everywhere have the opportunity to grow, thrive and contribute to their communities.
