Ed Dwight had to wait over six decades to achieve his dream of going into space.
In 1961, President John F. Kennedy selected him as the first black astronaut candidate in the country. However, NASA did not select him for a mission then, and he was unable to travel into space.
On Sunday, at 90-years-old, he was finally given the chance to fulfill his dream and became the oldest person to go to space. The Blue Origin spacecraft carried him and five others to the edge of space before safely returning them to Earth.
“I thought I really didn’t need this in my life. But now I need it in my life,” said Ed.
