DUBAI: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that 70 percent of the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project has been completed. The project stretches from the intersection with Al Khail Road to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and is a key part of the larger Umm Suqeim–Al Qudra corridor plan, which spans 16 km and connects Jumeirah Street to Emirates Road.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, made the announcement during a recent site inspection. He stated that the development aligns with leadership’s vision to improve road infrastructure in support of Dubai’s urban growth and increasing population.
The completed phase includes a 4.6 km section of Umm Suqeim Street and a major intersection near Kings’ School in Al Barsha South. The intersection features a new 800-metre tunnel with four lanes in each direction and a signalised surface-level crossing. Once finished, the corridor will have a total capacity of 16,000 vehicles per hour and reduce travel time between Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road by up to 61%.
The corridor serves major residential and development zones such as Al Barsha South, Dubai Hills, Arjan, and Dubai Science Park, supporting over one million residents.
RTA is also using smart technologies to monitor project progress, including drones and artificial intelligence to track milestones and improve decision-making. These tools have doubled on-site efficiency, halved survey times, and increased monitoring performance by 40%.
Previous phases of the project, completed in 2013 and 2020, included key bridges and intersections to enhance connectivity in the Dubai Hills and Al Barsha areas.
