DUBAI: Dubai has officially launched the Middle East’s first drone delivery system, marking a significant milestone in smart logistics. The launch, led by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, took place at Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), a hub for knowledge and innovation.

The event saw H.H. Sheikh Hamdan place the first drone order from the Rochester Institute of Technology-Dubai (RIT-Dubai), successfully delivered from one of DSO’s take-off points. This step reinforces Dubai’s commitment to advanced infrastructure and innovative logistics.

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan said, “We support projects that drive a diversified, flexible digital economy by leveraging advanced technology and empowering aviation.” He also emphasised Dubai’s mission to double its economy by 2033 through initiatives like the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.

The launch aligns with Dubai’s Drone Transportation Programme, introduced in 2021, aiming to enhance drone use for logistics. The project is a joint effort between the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority (DCAA), Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ), and Dubai Future Foundation (DFF).

Prominent figures, including H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum and officials from RTA, DCAA, and DIEZ, attended the event. They highlighted Dubai’s role as a global leader in air transport, smart logistics, and cutting-edge innovation.

This initiative aims to achieve 33% drone delivery coverage across Dubai by 2030, revolutionising logistics and air mobility. Companies like Keeta Drone, a key player in drone technology from China, and local universities like RIT-Dubai are key partners.

Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, described the launch as a “new milestone in technological innovation.” He added that DSO is now a global testing ground for smart solutions, enhancing Dubai’s standing as a hub for future tech.

With drone delivery set to cover a third of the city by 2030, Dubai is firmly on track to be a leader in smart mobility and future-ready logistics.
