ISLAMABAD: Pakistan successfully launched its first home-made observation satellite, PRSC-EO1, on Friday from China’s Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre.
The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) announced the satellite’s launch, highlighting its transformative potential. According to SUPARCO, PRSC-EO1 is designed to enhance Pakistan’s capacity to monitor and manage natural resources, respond effectively to disasters, and support urban planning and agricultural development.
The satellite marks a significant step for Pakistan’s space ambitions, showcasing the country’s ability to design and deploy advanced technology independently. Officials hailed the launch as a milestone that will bolster Pakistan’s self-reliance in space research and applications, offering critical tools for sustainable development and disaster mitigation.
Experts say that PRSC-EO1 will enable Pakistan to collect high-resolution imagery and data essential for tracking environmental changes, water resource management, and improving crop yields. It also holds strategic importance by enhancing the country’s capacity for surveillance and resource allocation.
The satellite was launched in collaboration with China, which has played a pivotal role in supporting Pakistan’s space programme over the years. This partnership reflects the growing scientific and technological ties between the two nations, particularly in aerospace engineering and research.
SUPARCO emphasised that PRSC-EO1 aligns with Pakistan’s vision for leveraging space technology to drive economic growth and tackle pressing challenges like climate change and disaster preparedness. The agency plans to continue investing in satellite technology to ensure Pakistan stays at the forefront of regional advancements.
