DUBAI: Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management, the Dubai Civil Defence has officially launched the ‘1 Billion Readiness’ initiative. This unprecedented global programme aims to train and raise awareness among 1 billion people worldwide on fire safety and prevention techniques from 2025 to 2027.

The 1 Billion Readiness initiative is the largest of its kind, featuring international collaboration across 34 countries and 18 major firefighting organisations. As the UAE leads this pioneering effort, it underscores the nation’s commitment to enhancing safety and security systems on a global scale.

A standout feature of the initiative is the Hope Convoys project, which will provide critical resources to developing nations. The project will supply essential firefighting equipment and establish fire stations to bolster preparedness and emergency response capabilities. Additionally, it seeks to strengthen international relations in the field of safety.

Lieutenant General Expert Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi highlighted that the initiative will raise global awareness on fire prevention and safety procedures through comprehensive awareness campaigns. Specialised digital platforms in multiple languages will support the campaign, ensuring widespread accessibility. Participants will also receive certified electronic certificates from the Global Wildfire Monitoring Center and the Dubai Civil Defence Readiness Program upon course completion.

Locally, the initiative will launch extensive campaigns targeting various segments of society, including individuals, government institutions, the private sector, and schools, ensuring broad outreach and impact.
