Delhi Police has denied permission for Diljit Dosanjh’s October 30 concert at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, citing security concerns. AAP leader Jarnail Singh criticised the decision and questioned the authorities’ ability to ensure security.

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police has denied permission for Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s concert scheduled for October 30 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, citing security concerns and increased policing requirements during the festive season.

Police officials confirmed the decision on Thursday, October 22, leaving thousands of fans uncertain about the event.

The concert was scheduled to launch the India leg of Dosanjh’s Aura India Tour. Authorities reportedly informed ticketing platform BookMyShow that permission could not be granted because of security threats and additional law-and-order responsibilities

AAP leader questions police decision

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Jarnail Singh criticised the decision and questioned why authorities could not provide adequate security for the internationally recognised singer.

Singh argued that ensuring public safety was the responsibility of the police.

He also criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying Punjabi communities would not forgive the decision.

His remarks added a political dimension to the controversy surrounding the concert.

Concert date was changed earlier

The performance was originally scheduled for November 1.

However, organisers moved it to October 30 following an appeal by Punjab Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney.

Sahney had requested the change out of respect for victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, whose anniversary falls on November 1.

Dosanjh’s team subsequently confirmed the revised date.

What happens to ticket holders?

As of October 22, organisers had not publicly confirmed a replacement venue or revised concert date.

Details about ticket refunds and further arrangements were also awaited.

Impact to expect

The decision could disrupt travel plans and bookings for fans attending the Delhi concert.

Ticket holders should monitor official announcements from BookMyShow and the organisers before making further arrangements.

Other scheduled performances on the India tour have not been reported as affected.
