Sharjah ranks 4th in GCC, 7th in MENA in 2024 Startup Rankings

London: Sharjah shines in its entrepreneurial prowess for 2024 as the Global Startup Ecosystem Report (GSER) reveals its ascent to 4th in the GCC and 7th in MENA’s startup ecosystem rankings. Announced during London Tech Week by Startup Genome and Global Entrepreneurship Network, this marks a significant leap from its 2023 ranking position, underlining growing influence internationally of Sharjah.

Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sheraa, Sharjah’s flagship startup incubator, lauded this achievement. She emphasized Sharjah’s strategic focus on entrepreneurship, making it investor and business-friendly. The ecosystem, she noted, is conducive to innovation and dynamic collaboration, fueling sustainable economic growth.

The report spotlights Sharjah’s strengths in Cleantech, Digital & Creative Industries, and Edtech, citing high talent density and robust startup activity. Sharjah excels in various categories, ranking #5 in ‘Bang for Buck’, #6 in Funding, and #7 in Market Reach, alongside Top 15 spots in Knowledge and Performance categories.

Sharjah’s success is attributed to its strategic location, substantial investment in education, and business-friendly infrastructure. Najla Al Midfa, Sheraa’s Vice Chairperson, emphasized their commitment to nurturing entrepreneurship and fostering innovation across sectors like sustainability and edtech.

The GSER’s comprehensive analysis draws from data across 300+ ecosystems globally, highlighting Sharjah’s dedication to fostering a competitive startup environment. Sheraa’s ecosystem, nurtured over 8 years, boasts over 500 founders and 18,000 entrepreneurial youth, with a notable 71% survival rate.

Sheraa’s flagship event, the Sharjah Entrepreneurship Festival (SEF), celebrates entrepreneurial spirit, drawing global attendees. Sheraa’s collaboration with Startup Genome has been instrumental in spotlighting Sharjah’s strengths globally.
