The king of frozen food passes away: Al Kabeer mourns for its founder

The founder of Al Kabeer, Mr Ghulamuddin M. Shaikh passed away peacefully today. Gulab bhai, as he was fondly known, was not keeping well and was under observation in Lilavati Hospital, Bandra West, Mumbai. He was 87.5 years old.

A visionary leader, dedicated, energetic and passionate to fructify his vision, he was an inspiration to many. He founded Al Kabeer in 1979 and was a leading force in making the Mumbai based frozen food company a household name around the world. A pioneer in the ready-to-eat food industry, he was known to be a humble human being, philanthropic, man of commitment, honesty and with great ideas and foresight.

People close to him recall his jovial nature. Nafees Ahmed, a family-friend, tells us about the memorable times spent with the late stalwart. “Even though he was a leader of his industry, Gulab bhai was humble and down to earth”, he fondly remembers. “He was always helpful and guiding others.”

Relatives and friends paid respects to the family. He is survived by two sons and two daughters.
