Abu Dhabi : The Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) has teamed up with well-known actor and humanitarian Idris Elba to advance the emirate’s vision for a safe and sustainable food and water future. This collaboration aims to make the most of Abu Dhabi’s pioneering efforts in food production and water treatment, driven by sustainable technology solutions. It comes in the wake of the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, launched to address the pressing issue of water scarcity worldwide.

Through this partnership with Elba’s impact investment company, The Akuna Group (TAG), Abu Dhabi seeks to accelerate the development and implementation of initiatives in novel food development, agricultural transformation, and water treatment and technology. The emirate plans to lead in cultivating onshore high-value microalgae, offshore farming of key fish stocks, and innovating reverse osmosis water treatment.

TAG is committed to fostering African industries and entrepreneurship through strategic partnerships, impact investments, innovative technologies, and advisory services.

As a first step, Elba will engage in global conversations and awareness initiatives to inspire and expedite the transformation of food and water systems, using Abu Dhabi as a model. These efforts will include collaborations with global institutions to showcase the global impact of Abu Dhabi’s forward-thinking initiatives.

Badr Al Olama, Director-General of ADIO, expressed Abu Dhabi’s commitment to innovation in food and water production, sustainability, and growth. He highlighted the collaboration with Elba as instrumental in reimagining the future of food and water for the region and beyond.

ADIO is dedicated to fostering Abu Dhabi’s economy, aiming for progress and purpose to converge and address pressing global challenges. It provides investment opportunities for local, regional, and international players, prioritizing advanced technologies in food and water sustainability.

ADIO’s initiatives align with the UAE’s strategies for national well-being, including the National Food Security Strategy 2051 and the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036. The Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative aims to raise awareness about water scarcity and accelerate technological innovation and international investment to tackle the challenges it presents.
