SHARJAH: Hoor Al Qasimi has topped ArtReview’s prestigious Power 100 list for 2024, cementing her status as the most influential figure in the contemporary art world. The list celebrates individuals shaping global art trends and driving innovation in the field.

Al Qasimi’s recognition highlights her remarkable contributions over three decades as a curator and institutional leader committed to inclusivity and diversity. As President and Director of Sharjah Art Foundation, which she founded in 2009, she has played a pivotal role in advancing contemporary art on a global scale.

Her leadership extends to the Sharjah Biennial, which she has directed since 2003, transforming it into a renowned platform for artistic experimentation. Under her guidance, the Foundation has expanded its reach, hosting innovative exhibitions and programmes spanning film, performance, music, and education.

Al Qasimi also spearheads the March Meeting, an annual gathering of artists and cultural producers. Her influence extends beyond Sharjah as she holds roles such as President of the International Biennial Association and The Africa Institute. She also leads the Sharjah Architecture Triennial, which she launched in 2019.

Her global impact is further solidified with her appointments as Artistic Director for the 2025 Aichi Triennale and the 2026 Biennale of Sydney, making her the first non-Japanese person to curate the former.

Throughout her career, Al Qasimi has challenged western-centric narratives, promoting dialogue and collaboration across cultures. Her work with international boards and advisory councils has established Sharjah as a critical hub for contemporary art, fostering connections and innovation worldwide.
