Egypt’s national football team won the hearts of fans – from people in Gaza to world leaders and supporters and their own citizens. Their 3-2 Round of 16 defeat in the match against Argentina became highly controversial and left fans feeling that the Pharaohs were being treated unfairly. Hossam Hassan, the coach of the team, had even celebrated their win against Australia to the Palestinian people in the round of 32 as it was their first ever World Cup match victory.

CROATIA (FIFA 2018)

Eight years ago, during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, France was the final victor yet the team that won everyone’s hearts was Croatia. It was the first FIFA season in which Croatia national football team reached the World Cup finale and finished as runners up. Fans  described the runners-up finish as Croatia’s “gold,” saying the team’s achievement meant more than a trophy because it united the nation and exceeded all expectations. Although the team had ultimately lost, their long streak of overcoming some of Europe’s strongest teams left a lasting impression.

SOUTH KOREA (FIFA 2002)

The 2002 World Cup was a big moment for the South Korean football team – South Korea had won a World Cup match for the first time and was also the first Asian team to reach the FIFA semifinals. MOROCCO (FIFA 2022)

The Moroccan national football team, known as the Atlas Lions became one of the most beloved teams of the 2022 World Cup season, the first African and Arab nation to reach the World Cup semifinals.
