Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed attends opening of 1st GCC Youth Games

Dubai: Speaking at the inaugural GCC Youth Games at the Dubai Opera, H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, highlighted GCC leaders’ dedication to nurturing youth talents for success on the international sports stage.

H.H. Sheikh Mansoor emphasized the crucial role of GCC sports tournaments in boosting global recognition for GCC sports and fostering unity among the region’s youth.

The event, attended by dignitaries like Jasem Mohamed Al Budaiwi and Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, showcased themes of sustainability and unity through a vibrant artistic performance, attended by 1500 spectators.

Sheikh Mansoor praised the commitment of athletes in using sports to promote competition, friendship, and cooperation. The games, under the theme “Our Gulf is One… Our Youth is Promising,” feature 3500 athletes competing in 24 sports, supported by 300 volunteers and 100 media representatives.

The ceremony, marked by the UAE national anthem and a parade of GCC flags, highlighted the importance of brotherhood and solidarity among participating nations. Leading the procession was a falcon sculpture symbolizing heritage and vitality, followed by performances showcasing sustainability and the future of GCC nations.

The UAE, leading the medal standings with 168 medals, including 58 gold, continues to dominate the games, followed by Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, and Qatar.

The tournament encompasses diverse sports like football, swimming, judo, boxing, and e-sports, reflecting the region’s sporting prowess and diversity.
