SHARJAH: The University of Sharjah (UoS) and the UAE Space Agency have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance space science, research, and technology, supporting the UAE Space Strategy.

The MoU was signed at the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Science, and Technology (SAASST) by Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of UoS and Director-General of SAASST, and Salem Butti Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency.

This collaboration aims to enhance research and development (R&D) in the space sector, identify mutually beneficial projects, and strengthen the UAE’s national space initiatives, including space economic zones and laboratories. A key element is the space facility-sharing initiative, which leverages UoS’s existing resources while promoting awareness of risks in space projects.

Prof. Al Naimiy emphasised the partnership’s alignment with the UAE’s strategic goals, stating, “This collaboration will bolster research and innovations that enhance scientific infrastructure, benefitting both local and global communities.”
