Unicorn founders affirm Dubai as prime hub for advanced tech at AI retreat

Dubai: The AI Retreat 2024, organized by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI) in collaboration with the National Programme for Artificial Intelligence, recently convened to discuss the potential benefits of the Dubai Sandbox initiative. This platform aims to foster innovation by providing a space for innovators, entrepreneurs, and tech companies to develop and test future technologies and AI applications in Dubai’s supportive environment.

During the event, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, suggested that Dubai become an open testbed for global tech companies due to its collaborative atmosphere, infrastructure, and legislative support. Founders and leaders of unicorn companies participated in panel discussions, emphasizing Dubai’s potential as a testbed for innovative technologies and its ability to attract innovators worldwide.

Moderated by Khalifa Al Qama, Director of Dubai Sandbox, a panel titled “Government’s Role in Enabling AI Adoption through Policy Development and Regulatory Innovation” explored the role of governments in advancing AI development and adoption. The session highlighted Dubai’s commitment to creating a regulatory sandbox for experimental policies, promoting adaptive approaches towards AI adoption, and fostering collaboration with academia and the private sector.

Nicolas Prettejohn from Palantir, Rod Solaimani from OpenAI, and Karim Beguir from InstaDeep discussed their vision for increased AI adoption and offered insights into Dubai’s regulatory landscape for AI. They stressed the importance of governments in enabling AI applications, training the workforce, and designing effective regulatory frameworks to ensure ethical use of technology.

Participants praised Dubai’s commitment to providing a supportive environment for innovation and emphasized the significance of initiatives like the Dubai Sandbox in accelerating AI development. They highlighted Dubai’s global leadership in promoting an enabling regulatory and digital environment for AI investments and stated that the Dubai Sandbox would further enhance the city’s position as a global hub for the digital economy.
