Sharjah green‑lights AED 150 million road upgrades to ease traffic and improve connectivity.

SHARJAH: Sharjah Roads & Transport Authority (SRTA) said that under the directives of Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, two major infrastructure projects have been approved to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and enhance connectivity across the emirate.

The first initiative involves upgrading a 5‑kilometre stretch of the Sharjah Ring Road — near the Etihad Rail station — at a cost of AED 90 million. As part of the upgrade, the University City Bridge will be expanded to four lanes (two lanes each way), aiming to relieve pressure on Mleiha Road and improve connectivity toward the Rakan Bridge.

The second project includes construction of a new bridge beside the Martyrs’ Monument, with a budget of AED 60 million. This new link will create a direct route for vehicles from Mleiha Road to Mohamed bin Zayed Road, and for traffic from Sheikh Khalifa Street toward Mleiha Road, helping ease inner‑city congestion.

Authorities expect these upgrades to significantly reduce travel times, smooth daily commutes and enhance traffic safety across Sharjah — especially during peak hours and in high‑traffic zones.

As Sharjah continues to grow and urbanise, these strategic road improvements demonstrate the emirate’s commitment to building sustainable, efficient transport infrastructure that meets the demands of its residents and supports future development.
