Dubai: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai inaugurated a significant bridge as a part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project. This project, which began today, involves constructing four bridges spanning a total of 2,874 meters and accommodating up to 17,600 vehicles per hour. The newly opened two-lane bridge, measuring 666 meters in length, enhances traffic flow by diverting traffic from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to the service road leading to Jumeirah Golf Estate and Dubai Production City entrances.

Mattar Al Tayer, the Director General and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, revealed that the project has reached a completion rate of 90%. He emphasized that this initiative aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to continually develop road infrastructure to accommodate urban growth and population expansion.

Al Tayer highlighted the close monitoring of the project’s progress by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council. This project serves as a vital link between Sheikh Zayed Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, First Al Khail Road, and Al Asayel Street, facilitating smoother traffic flow.

Upon completion, the project is expected to reduce travel time by 40% from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and by 70% for motorists traveling from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Yalayes Street. The project includes the construction of four bridges, each designed to optimize traffic flow and enhance connectivity between key routes.

Additionally, the project encompasses 7 km of road works, including surface intersection improvements and infrastructure enhancements. This project is part of RTA’s master plan to develop strategic traffic corridors, supporting Dubai’s mobility networks and accommodating current and future traffic demands.
