Dubai announces reduced school timings for Ramadan 2023

Dubai: Ramadan is expected to begin on Thursday, March 23 with the number of hours children will be in school has been announced. It is being said that schools should provide a maximum of five hours of instruction time during Ramadan 2023. Education establishments must also finish for the day on Friday by noon to accommodate Friday prayers.

Reports say that students are that fasting students are exempt from participating in physical education classes if requested and homework and revision expectations are to also be reconsidered and lowered.

While the hours for a majority of schools will be from 9 am to 2 pm daily, it is up to individual primary and secondary schools to alter the timings to best suit the needs of their parent community.

The educational quality assurance and regulatory authority of the Government of Dubai also encouraged both students and teaching staff to take the opportunity of reduced hours to spend quality time with their families and asked that schools keep this in mind when assigning work to the children.

Schoolchildren in the UAE are set to have half of Ramadan off this year, with only eight days spent in the classroom.

Ramadan is predicted to begin on Thursday, March 23 and end on Friday, April 21. Due to Spring break, kids of school age won’t be having to go to school from Monday, March 27 until Thursday, April 13.

Children will only be in school for March 23 and March 24 before the weekend starts and then Spring break follows on March 27.

They will then have 14 school days off until returning back on April 13 for eight days.

Here is the breakdown of when kids are expected to be in school during Ramadan:

  • Two days on Thursday, March 23 and Friday, March 24
  • Two days on Thursday, April 13 and Friday, April 14
  • Four days from Monday, April 17 to Thursday, April 20
