Dubai: India’s Commerce and Industry Ministry recently announced that the country’s electronic goods exports grew 49% in April-December 2021 at $11 billion over $7.4 billion during the same period last year, with the US and the UAE being the top two destinations.

Talking to TheBrew, Kamal Vachani, Regional Director of Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC), said that India’s electronic goods export is set to break all-time record highs in FY21, surpassing the previous high of $11.7 billion.

“I feel proud to know that the UAE ranked second after the United States as India’s top export market with 16.6% share,” – Kamal Vachani, Regional Director of Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC)

The electronic goods sector includes IT hardware (laptops, tablets), consumer electronics (TV and audio), industrial electronics, auto electronics, electronic components, LED lighting, wearables and hearables, and Telecom equipment. In addition, mobile Phones constitute a significant chunk of India’s electronics goods exports.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) recently released the second volume of a 5-year road map and vision document for the electronics sector.

Kamal Vachani, who is representing the ESC, India’s apex trade promotion organisation, as a Regional Director for the Middle East since 1999 and also the Group Director of the Dubai-based Al Maya Group added that, “In December 2021, electronic goods exports touched $1.67 billion, registering a growth of 33.99% over $1.25 billion logged in December 2020”.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) document lays the road map to “transform India into a $300 billion electronics manufacturing powerhouse over the next 5 years, from the current US$75 billion. This will make electronics goods among India’s 2-3 top ranking exports by 2026”.

As per the vision document, electronics goods exports are expected to increase from $15 billion in 2021-22 to $120 billion by 2026.
