DUBAI: Energy sector leaders in the UAE highlighted the significance of World Energy Day as a catalyst for collective action and global collaboration, while also celebrating the nation’s achievements in the clean energy field. Observed annually on October 22, this initiative aims to provide safe and sustainable energy for all and stresses the necessity for national policies that reflect a global energy perspective.
World Energy Day promotes awareness around the importance of conserving natural resources and protecting the environment. It encourages the use of renewable energy and supports the transition to a green economy. Key priorities for the UAE include diversifying energy sources, increasing clean energy contributions, and attracting investments in related sectors.
The UAE has launched several energy strategies, including the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, aimed at tripling the contribution of renewable energy and investing AED150 to AED200 billion by 2030 to meet the growing energy demand driven by a rapidly expanding economy. The country is making significant strides in balancing economic growth with the preservation of natural resources.
World Energy Day also serves as a reminder for nations to cooperate and innovate in clean energy technologies. This includes advancing solutions like green hydrogen to facilitate a more sustainable future. The UAE is dedicated to achieving its clean energy targets, guided by its national energy strategy, and currently boasts a grid that ranks among the cleanest worldwide.
