Etihad Airways passenger numbers reach 2.2 million in January, marking strong growth and sustained demand across its global network.

ABU DHABI: Etihad Airways passenger numbers climbed to 2.2 million in January, reflecting a 29 percent increase compared with 1.7 million passengers during the same month last year. The growth signals a strong start to 2026 for the national carrier as demand continues to rise across its expanding network.

Passenger load factor reached 89.9 percent, up from 89.1 percent a year earlier, highlighting sustained demand and effective capacity management. The figures indicate that Etihad Airways passenger numbers are benefiting from both route expansion and improved operational performance.

At the start of 2026, the airline’s operating fleet stood at 127 aircraft, serving 110 destinations worldwide. The network includes seasonal and cargo routes, as well as destinations scheduled to launch within the next 12 months.

Antonoaldo Neves, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, said January marked a strong opening to the year. “January has been a strong start to 2026. Demand is high, our product is resonating with customers, and the dedication of our teams is evident in every flight,” he stated.

He added, “In January, we announced new services to Luxembourg and Calgary – two cities that will, for the first time, have a direct connection to Abu Dhabi.”

The continued rise in Etihad Airways passenger numbers reflects growing connectivity through Abu Dhabi and reinforces the airline’s strategic expansion plans as it strengthens its position in global aviation markets.
