UAE sends 117 tonnes of relief supplies to Türkiye, Syria

Abu Dhabi: Within the past 24 hours, the United Arab Emirates has sent 117 tonnes of relief supplies as part of Operation “Gallant Knight / 2” for the victims of the earthquake that struck Syria and Türkiye.

These include 97 tonnes of foodstuffs, 20 tonnes of medical supplies, and 696 tents to shelter the affected people via cargo flights to Syria and Turkey which totalled 36 to date.

Using sophisticated tools and equipment, the Emirati search and rescue crews are moving on with their mission to save people buried beneath the wreckage.

The cataclysmic aftermath of the earthquake necessitated a serious stance to come to the aid of the Syrian and Turkish people, obligating us to match our response with the size of the disaster, in line with the UAE’s approach to dealing with such cases and our understanding of the urgency of the situation, the Joint Operations Command explained.

The UAE’s rescue teams were among the first to arrive at the quake-struck sites, a testament to their rapid response in cases of natural disasters, which is further supported by the diverse forms of aid that the UAE provides, to meet the needs determined based on fast-paced evaluations of the situation and relevant developments. Emirati search and rescue squads succeeded in saving two people in Türkiye as part of the UAE’s ‘Gallant Knight/2’ operation to support the victims of the recent earthquake. The first was an 11-year-old child, while the second was a man between his 50s and 60s. The Emirati team worked incredibly hard during the operation to save the two victims in the Kahramanmaraş province until it was successful after they had been trapped among the rubble for nearly 120 hours. The survivors have been successfully treated by the involved medical professionals, and they are currently in good health.
