Dubai: The UAE Floating Hospital, stationed at the Port of Al-Arish, officially began its mission today, offering crucial medical aid to Palestinians. The first patients, Gazans with various injuries and fractures, were promptly admitted, marking the start of this vital healthcare effort.

This initiative aligns with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s directive to support the people of Gaza under the ‘Gallant Knight 3’ humanitarian operation.

A 20-year-old Palestinian underwent the hospital’s first surgery today for gunshot wounds and shrapnel injuries. His shoulder was dislocated and fractured, with nerve damage leaving his hand immobile. Doctors swiftly repositioned the shoulder, with follow-up surgery needed for the nerve damage.

Established in collaboration with the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi and AD Ports Group, the Floating Hospital has a staff of 100, including specialists in anesthesia, surgery, orthopedics, and emergency medicine, along with nurses and support staff.

Equipped with 100 beds, operating rooms, intensive care, radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, and medical facilities, the hospital is well-prepared to offer top-notch medical care.

Dr. Falah Al Mahmoud, the hospital’s director, stated that its opening will bolster the UAE’s medical support to Gaza, providing relief to the suffering population. The hospital boasts state-of-the-art equipment, adhering to international healthcare standards.

Upon docking at Al-Arish, the hospital immediately began receiving and treating Palestinian patients, offering comprehensive care and medication. It is equipped with a helipad and marine boat for swift medical responses to emergencies.

All patients undergo thorough evaluation upon admission, including examinations and tests, to determine the best treatment approach, whether surgical or medical.

Grateful Palestinians thanked the UAE and its leadership for this noble initiative, underscoring the country’s steadfast support. They praised the medical and volunteer teams for their unwavering assistance since the crisis began.

Expanding on the success of the UAE’s integrated field hospital in Gaza, the Floating Hospital extends critical medical services to the region. The field hospital in Gaza, operational since December 2023, has treated numerous cases, performing surgeries and providing essential medical care and consultations.
