Dubai Police named UAE’s first Autism-Friendly Police

Dubai: Dubai Police, led by Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, has officially received the Autism-Friendly Certificate (AFC) from the Dubai Autism Centre, recognizing their commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for individuals with autism.

Lt. Gen. Al Marri expressed pride in this achievement, emphasizing Dubai Police’s dedication to inclusivity and aligning with national strategies, such as sustainable development and empowerment policies. He highlighted their continuous efforts to adopt global best practices and advanced technologies, aiming to enhance the quality of life for individuals of determination.

The Autism-Friendly Certificate was awarded to Al Barsha and Al Muraqqabat police stations, following an evaluation of their facilities and services. This recognition signifies Dubai Police’s commitment to providing equal access and support to individuals with autism, in line with the vision of transforming Dubai into a friendly city for people of determination.

Mohammed Al Emadi, Director-General of the Dubai Autism Centre, praised Dubai Police for ensuring accessible services at police stations and supporting the needs of individuals with autism. He reiterated the centre’s commitment to creating safe and inclusive environments, aligning with global standards.

Major Abdullah Hamad Al Shamsi, Chairman of Dubai Police’s People of Determination Empowerment Council, highlighted the establishment of sensory rooms in police stations, emphasizing their role in fostering social interaction and providing a safe space for individuals with autism. He underlined the council’s dedication to building partnerships and exchanging knowledge for the well-being of this segment of society.

Two sensory rooms have been established at Al Muraqqabat and Al Barsha police stations, fully equipped to cater to the specific needs of individuals with autism. Major Al Shamsi mentioned an ongoing plan to evaluate the needs of other police stations for sensory rooms, ensuring equal access to services across different sectors without discrimination.

The certificate presentation ceremony, attended by various police and council members, signifies a collaborative effort to implement the Autism-Friendly Environment program, creating a comprehensive system to serve individuals with autism effectively.
