EU rejects Israeli government toppling claims as entirely false, demanding immediate withdrawal of remarks made by Israel’s justice minister.
BRUSSELS: EU rejects Israeli government toppling claims after allegations surfaced that the bloc was attempting to undermine leadership in Tel Aviv. The statement came during a European Commission media briefing on Thursday.
The remarks followed comments attributed to Yariv Levin, Israel’s Justice Minister, suggesting that the European Union was working to bring down his government. The allegations were described as baseless by EU officials.
Speaking at the briefing, Anouar El Anouni, spokesperson for EU Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, firmly dismissed the claims. He said the accusations were “entirely false, offensive and unacceptable” and stressed that the EU does not interfere in the democratic processes of sovereign nations.
El Anouni added that the European Union has never attempted and will never attempt to bring down a democratically elected government. He also called for the comments attributed to Levin to be withdrawn immediately.
The dispute highlights rising diplomatic tensions between Brussels and Tel Aviv amid broader geopolitical challenges. However, EU officials reiterated that the bloc remains committed to dialogue and cooperation based on mutual respect and international law.
EU rejects Israeli government toppling claims at a time when relations between the European Union and Israel continue to be shaped by complex political and security dynamics. Officials emphasised that maintaining constructive engagement remains a priority.
As the situation unfolds, EU rejects Israeli government toppling claims stance underscores its position on respecting democratic institutions and sovereignty.
