UAE expresses condolences and solidarity with Sri Lanka following Cyclone Ditwah, which caused dozens of deaths and displaced thousands.
ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates has extended its heartfelt condolences and expressed strong solidarity with Sri Lanka after Cyclone Ditwah swept across the island, resulting in dozens of fatalities, mass displacement, and widespread damage.
In an official statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) conveyed its deepest sympathy to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Sri Lanka during this time of crisis. The statement highlighted the UAE’s support for the affected communities and its commitment to humanitarian solidarity in the face of natural disasters.
Cyclone Ditwah caused severe flooding and landslides, leaving more than 46 people dead and over 43,000 individuals displaced across Sri Lanka. The country’s eastern and central provinces were the most affected, as heavy rainfall triggered devastating landslides and overwhelmed infrastructure.
The UAE reaffirmed its commitment to stand by nations experiencing natural calamities and expressed hope for a swift recovery for the injured and a quick restoration of stability for displaced families. This gesture reflects the UAE’s consistent humanitarian diplomacy and its strong bilateral relationship with Sri Lanka.
