The UAE ends investigation into illegal arms shipment to Sudan’s Port Sudan Authority, referring accused to trial to uphold territorial integrity.
ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates has concluded a high-level investigation into an attempted illegal shipment of military equipment destined for Port Sudan Authority, reaffirming its firm commitment to preventing its territory from being misused for illicit activity or conflict-related smuggling.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) confirmed the accused have been referred to trial, marking a significant step in the UAE’s national security enforcement. The operation highlights the vigilance and professionalism of UAE’s security and judicial authorities, and their ability to swiftly identify and neutralise violations of international and domestic law.
The Ministry stated that the UAE applies the highest global standards of compliance and oversight, ensuring that its ports, airspace, and land routes are not used for illegal purposes — especially in relation to ongoing regional conflicts, including the Sudan civil war.
“The UAE maintains a firm stance against illicit arms trafficking and transnational crime,” the statement said, adding that these actions are in strict adherence to international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
Authorities did not disclose specific details about the attempted smuggling operation but stressed that the move reflects the UAE’s responsibility to support regional and international peace efforts and prevent any exploitation of its globally connected logistics infrastructure.
The UAE will also continue working with international partners to enhance information-sharing, compliance protocols, and strategic cooperation aimed at halting arms trafficking and other unlawful cross-border activities.
