The UAE celebrates its 54th National Day with major achievements in space exploration, women’s empowerment, and citizen housing projects across the nation.
ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates marked its 54th Eid Al Etihad with significant national and global achievements in 2025, especially in space innovation and women’s empowerment. As the Year of Community, the country strengthened its global standing through key milestones that reinforced its commitment to sustainable development and inclusive progress.
In the space sector, the UAE launched six major satellites including Thuraya 4, MBZ-SAT, AlainSat-1, HCT-SAT 1, the second phase of the Foresight constellation, and Etihad-SAT. The Emirates Mission to the Asteroid Belt entered its final design phase, while Space 42 and ICEYE successfully launched Foresight-3, 4 and 5 satellites into low Earth orbit. The Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre also confirmed the successful completion of the Rashid 2 lunar rover, part of the Emirates Lunar Mission.
Meanwhile, 2025 also marked significant progress in empowering Emirati women. The UAE ranked first in the region and 13th globally in the Gender Inequality Index by the United Nations Development Programme. In addition, the World Economic Forum selected three Emirati women as members of the Young Global Leaders Council of 2025. The launch of the Mother of the Nation’s 50:50 Vision further strengthened efforts in governance, identity and global partnerships focused on gender balance.
On the domestic front, the UAE expanded housing support for Emirati families. The Sheikh Zayed Housing Programme approved nearly 3,000 housing applications valued at over AED2 billion, with added initiatives for senior citizens. Abu Dhabi announced 13 new residential community projects for 40,000 homes, while Dubai launched AED5.4 billion in housing developments. Sharjah approved two major batches of land grants for 3,500 citizens.
These achievements reflect the UAE’s steady path toward future readiness, combining technology, equality and social stability in its national vision.
